About the Certification
It is the highest certification in the VMware Cloud Management & Automation track, known as VCDX-CMA – VMware Certified Design Expert. Unlike traditional exams, it does not rely on a standard written test. Instead, candidates must submit a complete enterprise-grade cloud automation design using VMware Aria Automation and then defend it before an official VCDX panel in a live Defense session. The certification validates the ability to design enterprise-level Cloud Automation solutions, analyze and document complex requirements, build a fully integrated architecture covering Compute, Network, Storage, and Security, design scalable multi-cloud solutions, and justify architectural decisions before a board of experts. It represents the absolute pinnacle in cloud architecture design using VMware Aria Automation.

Exam Details
- The certification process consists of three stages:
- 1- Design submission
2- Design review
3- Design defense (Panel Defense) in front of a VCDX board - Language: English
- Result: Pass / Fail

Do I need certifications before it ?
Officially, yes.
You must first earn VCP-CMA followed by VCAP-CMA Design.
In practice, beyond certifications, reaching this level requires advanced real-world experience with VMware Aria Automation, enterprise-scale Cloud Management & Automation design and implementation, and the ability to confidently defend architectural decisions before a panel of experts.
